By act of the United States Congress, today is recognized as Pulaski Day, in honor of a Polish nobleman and soldier, Casimir Pulaski.  He won fame for his role with the continental Army in the Revolutionary War in America.  Pulaski sailed to America in 1777 to offer his services to General George Washington.  He was Washington’s aid-de-camp at the Battle of Brandywine in September, 1777.  At Washington’s urging, Congress made Pulaski a Brigadier General.  He was an expert cavalryman who organized a group of soldiers that became known as Pulaski’s Legion.  Before coming to America, Pulaski led an unsuccessful revolt of Polish forces against Russia, which controlled Poland at that time.  He learned of the American cause in France from Benjamin Franklin, who encouraged him to travel to America.  Pulaski’s group performed will in their fighting in the South.  His soldiers participated in the siege of Savannah, where Pulaski was wounded on October 9, 1779.  He died two days later.

There will be no afterschool tutoring March 6 through March 15, due to ISAT testing.
